September 2010 Trail Run

Hidden Villa - Scaventeering
Sunday, September 26, 2010

Hidden Villa is very close to home, features scenic, well-maintained and marked trails, and yet many have never run here. We will be running on the trails of Hidden Villa and bordering sections of Rancho San Antonio, Rhus Ridge, and Black Mountain (lower portion). We'll break up into small groups to decipher clues, plan routes, and run trails collecting tokens to use as entries to the lottery prize drawing to be held at the end of the run.

When Sunday, September 26, 2010, meet at 9:00 (when Hidden Villa opens) for a 9:15 start. There will not be a carpool set up, since this is so close to home.

Where Hidden Villa is located at 26870 Moody Road, Los Altos Hills.

How Take Hwy 280 to El Monte/Moody Rd. exit and follow signs to El Monte Rd. West and Foothill College. Drive past the college entrance, make a left at the first stop sign (Moody Rd.) and continue 1.7 miles on Moody to Hidden Villa on your left. Proceed to the main parking lot near the Information Kiosk. There is a $5 parking fee that supports this great facility. If the entrance booth is open when you arrive, pay the fee there and pick up a map (I’ll have some extras, just in case). Otherwise, you can deposit your payment in the box at the parking lot. See www.hiddenvilla.org for more information.

Scaventeering Choosing from multiple loops you can run between 5-10 miles of total distance. Since the maps and trails are very well marked, these trails are easy to navigate. We will form small groups of similar running ability and distance interests. Each group/team will be provided with a list of clues to use in finding tokens will give you a (really good) chance of winning prizes at a lottery drawing held at the end of the run – the more tokens your team collects, the better the chances are that you will end up with a prize of your choice. Each group can decide how they choose to split their time between running (a reward in itself) and clue solving (for the best chance at prizes), allowing everyone to meet up together for the prize drawing and snacks at 11:30. You should carry at least one bottle of water with you. There is water available at the start/end of the run, however if you want other drinks during the run or at the end, feel free to bring them. You should also bring a watch (so you get back on time) and a small waist (or back) pack to hold prize tokens – they are small enough to hold in your hands, but it’s easier to have something to put them in. PARC will also be providing bagels and muffins at the end of the run, however feel free to bring other snacks to share if you want.

Why Beautiful, nearby trails, free food and prizes – the complete package!
