January 2012 Trail Run

Castle Rock State Park

Our first trail run of the year takes us (as usual) to the Santa Cruz Mountains above Saratoga and features spectacular views and a waterfall. Even if there are some clouds or liquid sunshine, the park remains a natural treasure and the trails are sheltered from the elements by an abundance of trees and is generally mud-resistant.

When Sunday, January 8, 2012. Meet at 8:20am for an 8:30am start. To carpool, meet at 7:45am in the Costco parking lot on Rengstorff Avenue in Mountain View near 101. We meet in the area of the parking lot that is close to the McDonalds.

Where Castle Rock State Park, 15000 Skyline Blvd, Los Gatos, CA 95030. There is limited free parking on the side of Skyline Blvd just south of the park entrance. Inside there is an $8 per vehicle parking fee, so try to find parking outside the entrance. Park info.

How to get there Take 101 or 280 South to 85 South. Follow 85 south and exit at Sunnyvale-Saratoga Road. Follow Sunnyvale-Saratoga Road south to Saratoga, turn right on Highway 9 toward Saratoga Gap. At Saratoga Gap turn left on Skyline Blvd. (Hwy 35) and follow it for 2.6 miles to the park entrance.

What A long run (9.2 miles) and an intermediate run (about 6.5 miles). These are remote trail runs and each runner must carry at least one water bottle. As usual, there will be a potluck after the run, so please bring food or drink to share.
