While standing over the printer as it printed the maps for tomorrow's run, I noticed the text towards the upper right "San Andreas Rift". Indeed one of the delights of this route is running several miles (more for the medium run) right along one of the Earth's most massive features, the 1,300km long San Andreas Fault. The forecast could hardly be more ideal with temps in the 50s and clear. See you there, 8:15am tomorrow.

We last had this activity in 2012 when over 50 runners joined in.
More details forthcoming.

I also want to let you know about a wonderful local trail race sponsored by the Stevens Creek Striders on Sept 26th. Not only do The Striders put on a well run event, a significant proportion of the race fees are contributed to the Santa Clara Valley Audubon Society (tax deductible for you).

Three distances to choose from: 50k, 30k, & Half-Marathon. The start times are staggered so that the finishes will be at more or less the same time. The run is followed by a post race gathering with sandwiches provided.

50k: 8am (or early start at 7am). 30k: 9:30am. Half: 11am

These races give you the chance to run through the beautiful high ridge open spaces including Monte Bello, Saratoga Gap, Long Ridge, Skyline Ridge, and Russian Ridge Open Space Preserves. Small is beautiful: their permit with the Open Space District limits the total runners to 150, so space is limited in each race. More details, maps and Google Earth fly-throughs can be found at: http://stevenscreekstriders.com/scsraces/

Every runner will take home a tee and a running hat.
These are such wonderful trails. Mostly shaded. Massive trees. Miles of soft mostly smooth clover-lined running. The intermediate route is about 8 miles (1,600' vertical) and the longer route is about 14 miles (2,100' vertical). Note that the distances are a bit uncertain as the park map doesn't agree well with actual GPS tracks. Pretty sure that the routes are not longer than advertised. If they are shorter, then an option is to go out and back on the Upper Coyote Ridge Trail to add up to 4 miles after getting back to the trailhead.
On Sunday, PARC's Monthly Trail Run heads to nearby Windy Hill. Our most popular trail destination. After the run we will gather at Konditorei (yelp 4.5 stars), a small friendly coffee shop just a few minutes from the trail head. We will likely be sitting outside, so come find us here after the run (about 10:30).
With lots of signups for the trail run on FB and our new Meetup page, seems that many are anticipating the need for a post-vDay recovery adventure. Weather forecast is for continued perfection. Los Trancos creek is flowing. Advance signup is not required. See you at the Arastradero trail head at 8:20 Sunday.

Parking can be a bit tight at the trail head, its a bit of a land rush right at that hour. An alternative is to park at the 280/Page Mill Park&Ride adding about a mile to the run. Or meet there for a self-arranged car pool perhaps.
PARC MONTHLY TRAIL RUN - CASTLE ROCK - TOMORROWtag:www.parunclub.com,2015-01-10:6303735:BlogPost:233722015-01-10T20:17:09.000ZRon Wolfhttps://www.parunclub.com/profile/RonWolf279

Our Castle Rock trail run is on for tomorrow morning. Looks like perfect(!) running weather, cool with great views promised.

Thx to those who RSVPed, its not necessary, but is appreciated. & we always have many join in who haven't RSVPed, so lace up those trail shoes and see you at the carpool and then the trail head.

I plan to park within the park so that we have a place for the potluck that's not right by the road.
