May Trail Run
Huddart County Park--Phleger Estate
Saturday, May 6, 2006
The May trail run will take us to a popular park close to Palo Alto. Running in dense forests that sheild us from the heat (should the sun finally come out) and on soft trails with moderate inclines provide an opportunity for enjoyable running.
The park was the site of extensive logging operations during the time of the California gold rush providing the lumber to build San Francisco. There were 15 sawmills within 5 miles of the nearby Woodside Store. One of them was Richard's sawmill after which today's Richard's Road trail is named. New trees in the park have grown for about 100 years.
When   Saturday, May 6, 2006. Meet at 8:15am for an 8:30am start. Carpool leaves at 7:55am from the Park & Ride parking lot at 280 and Page Mill Road.
Where   Huddart County Park - Phleger Estate, 1100 King's Mountain Road Woodside, CA 94062. More information about the parks can be found at San Mateo County Parks and GGNRA.
Take 280 north to Woodside Road (84). Exit and turn left (west) on Woodside Road and follow it for about 1.5 miles through the town of Woodside. Turn right on King's Mountain Road and follow it for about 3 miles to the Huddart Park Headquarters. Pay $5 parking fee and meet at the Zwierlein parking lot. Google estimates the driving time from Lucy Stern to be 25 minutes.
What   A short (6.7 miles) and a long (9.9 miles) run. This is a remote trail run and each runner must carry at least one water bottle. To avoid having to search for lost runners we ask every runner to find other runners of approximately the same running ability to form a group. The runners in each group must be able to account for their partners to make sure nobody is lost. As usual, there will be a potluck after the run, so please bring food or drink to share.
