June Trail Run
El Corte de Madera Creek Open Space Preserve
Sunday, June 4, 2006
Last month's run on the East slope of the Pennisula spine was well attended and well liked. Our June trail run is nearby, but is over the hill on the West slope of the Pennisula. Join us as we continue to explore the hilly and shaded trails of the MRSOD preserves.
When   Sunday June 4, 2006. Meet at 8:15am for an 8:30am start. Carpool will leave at 7:45am from the Park&Ride lot at 280 and Page Mill Road.
Where   El Corte de Madera Creek Open Space Preserve, Skyline Boulevard. There is no parking fee. More park info can be found here.
From I-280 take Hwy 84 (Woodside Rd.) West. From the junction of Hwy 84 and Skyline Blvd, go North on Skyline Blvd 3.9 miles to Skeggs Point where parking is available on the East side of Skyline. This lot is quite distinctive as it's the only large lot on the East side of Skyline after the turn North from Hwy 84. The trailhead is about 80 yards further North on the West side of Skyline. We will meet in the parking lot. Google estimates the driving time from Lucy Stern to be 31 minutes.
What   A long (about 8.7 miles, 1200+ feet vertical) and a shorter run (about 5.0 miles, 600+ feet vertical).
This is a remote trail run and each runner must carry at least one water bottle. To avoid having to search for lost runners we ask every runner to find other runners of approximately the same running ability to form a group. The runners in each group must be able to account for their partners to make sure nobody is lost.
As usual, there will be a potluck after the run, so please bring food or drink to share.
Why   Site of a 50s plane crash, unusual sandstone formations, redwoods, and coastal views; there are many interesting sights as these runs go through the rugged and varied terrain of the Peninsula uplands.
Also, these runs are among the shortest of PARC's monthly trail runs. But, don't forget, it's quite steep on some of this.
