When Saturday July 8, 2006. Meet at 8:45am in Big Basin. Carpool will leave at 7:30am from the Park&Ride lot at 280 and Page Mill Road. Taking the longish drive into consideration, the run will start at 9:00am, 30 minutes later than usual.
Take Highway 9 through Saratoga up to Skyline Blvd. Cross over Skyline and continue West on 9 for 6.2 miles. Bear right on Hwy 236 and it takes you into Big Basin. We will meet in the parking lot across from the Ranger Station. Google estimates 37 miles from Palo Alto with a 1:15 driving time. From Saratoga the roads are quite twisting.
What A long (about 10.4 miles, 2,500' elevation gain) and an intermediate run (about 7.5 miles, 1,500' elevation gain). These runs are not as steep as our recent runs, but are still plenty hilly.
This is a remote trail run and each runner must carry at least one water bottle. To avoid having to search for lost runners we help every runner find other runners of approximately the same running ability to form a group. The runners in each group must be able to account for their partners to make sure nobody is lost.
As usual, there will be a potluck after the run, so please bring food or drink to share.
Why Pretty sure that these are the largest waterfalls (both in volume and height) in the Bay Area. After our wet winter, with the soft well maintained trails, and the huge plentiful redwoods shading us for 95% of the run, this run is a must do.
