When Sunday August 7, 2005. Meet at 8:15am for an 8:30am start.
Carpool will leave at 7:45am from the Park&Ride lot at 280 and Page Mill Road.
From I-280 take Hwy 84 (Woodside Rd.) West. From the junction of Hwy 84 and Skyline Blvd, go North on Skyline Blvd 3.9 miles to Skeggs Point where parking is available on the East side of Skyline. This lot is quite distinctive as it's the only large lot on the East side of Skyline after the turn North from Hwy 84. The trailhead is about 80 yards further North on the West side of Skyline. We will meet in the parking lot.
What A long (about 8.7 miles, 1200+ feet vertical) and a shorter run
(about 5.0 miles, 600+ feet vertical). These distances are possibly short as previous maps for these runs have listed the distance in "Jon miles" as 9.55 and 5.75. In any case, it's plenty steep on some of this.
This is a remote trail run and each runner must carry at least one water bottle. To avoid having
to search for lost runners we ask every runner to find other runners of approximately the same
running ability to form a group. The runners in each group must be able to account for their partners to make sure nobody is lost.
As usual, there will be a potluck after the run, so please
bring food or drink to share.
Why Site of a 50s plane crash, unusual sandstone formations, redwoods, and coastal views; there are many interesting sights as these runs go through the rugged and varied terrain of the Peninsula uplands. Last month we were a bit farther North in the Purisima Creek Redwoods OSP and we had sometimes damp trails (great surface mostly) and cool running with the fog. We may be as lucky this month and have perfect August running weather. As last month, August's runs are steep, wooded, and usually cool (or at least not hot).
Also, these runs (if the distances are correct) are among the shortest of PARC's monthly trail runs.
