Stanford Home Run 2003
Saturday, October 25th: 5K at 9:00am, 10K at 9:30am.
We are currently looking for club members interested in running on PARC teams in both the 5K and 10K races. PARC has done well in past Home Runs, and we need your help to continue the tradition this year.
The Home Run is a fun event, and it's held right here in the "run club's back yard" on the Stanford campus. The courses are reasonably flat and fast, and both races finish with a partial lap in the stadium.
There is a great vibe at the Home Run, including a post race get together in the stadium with snacks, a raffle, and a nice award ceremony. Awards are trophies 3 deep in individual age catagories, and team plaques 3 deep in the team catagories. Also, every team gets a team picture taken at the awards ceremony.
See 2003 Home Run website and flyer for additional info.
NEW: Home Run 5K and 10K maps and text instructions: Word or PDF.
How to Join a PARC Home Run Team
1. Send an (or leave a message at 650-966-9696) with the following:
    •  Name
    •  M or F
    •  If you have a strong preference of 5K or 10K
    •  Estimates of your 5K and 10K times (based on ideal race courses)
2. Register for the event: online, or print form and mail.
    •  Choose 5K or 10K (we can change this later on the team registration form)
    •  If you use printed form, also choose team division, and enter "Palo Alto Run Club" for team name, and "Joe Murphy" for team captain. (again, this info can be changed or added on team registration).
    •  If you have already registered for the event, but did not declare a team affiliation, it's okay, we can still include you on our team registration.
How We Will Select Teams
Everyone who responds will be on a team. We will use the information you provide to try to put together as many competitive teams as we can. If you're willing to run either race, that will help us. And we especially need members for the women's teams.
We will confirm your email and make an early guess as to what team (or teams!) you will be assigned to. There will be weekly updates, and final assignments will be sent out on Monday, October 20th (week of the race). We will also announce final team assignments at the Monday and Wednesday Night Runs that week.
"Ironman" Option
If you are a strong runner, you might consider running BOTH races. The event is set up to make that possible, with the 10k starting 30 minutes after the 5k. There is a special ironman trophy award for the 2 best men's and 2 best women's total times (no ironman age group awards). You could contribute to two PARC team scores. If you'd like to sign up for the ironman option:
•  In your (or phone message at 650-966-9696) , state that preference and adjust your time estimates accordingly.
•  Do NOT register online. Mail in the form. Mark both 5K and 10K checkboxes and write "IRONMAN" in the space to the right. Add $5 to your entry fee to cover an extra bib #.
•  If you have already registered and you wish to change to the ironman option, let us know by (or leave a message at 650-966-9696) and we'll get that sorted out.
NOTE: Ironman perk--that extra bib # also gets you an extra chance in the raffles.
