An additional page, Email Guidelines provides guidelines for sending email to the PARunClub Discussion Group.
Joining the Discussion Group
Club members who wish to join must have an email address "on file" with the club, and use that email as their discussion group address.
If you are a club member with an on-file email address, you can join the PARunClub Discussion Group by either:
• visiting the discussion group website, clicking the "Join This Group" button and following the instructions provided.
Both methods require that your application be approved by a group moderator.
If you apply with your on-file email address, approval should take no more than a few days.
If we cannot verify your club membership, you will be notified by email.
Discussion Group Access Methods
PARunClub Discussion Group access is restricted to club members.
There are two ways to access the discussion group, by email distribution and by using the discussion group website. You can join
the discussion group as either an email-only member, or as a regular member.
Email-only discussion group members do not need to have a Yahoo ID. As an email-only member,
you can choose an email delivery option, but you can not log in to the discussion group web site.
Regular discussion group members must have a Yahoo ID. As a regular member, besides choosing an email delivery option,
you can log into the discussion group web site where you can view new messages, search the message archive, and access additional features.
NOTE: Because some important settings (including HTML conversion, and delivery address) and features (including message search and file upload) cannot be accessed by email-only members,
we recommend that all discussion group members become regular discussion group members.
An email-only member can obtain a free Yahoo ID at any time and become a regular member.
However, because the process is somewhat simpler, we recommend that you submit a yahoo ID when you first join the discussion group.
Email Delivery Options
Individual emails
Members who choose the individual emails delivery option receive all email submitted to the discussion group (regular discussion group email and special notices).
Daily digest
Those who choose the daily digest delivery option receive all email submitted to the discussion group (regular discussion group email and special notices) in daily digest form.
The daily digest is a text-based compilation of all email sent to the discussion group in a 24 hour span.
If 25 emails are submitted to the discussion group before 24 hours has elapsed, a digest is generated and sent, and a new 24 hour period begins.
Special notices
The special notices delivery option is for those who want to receive only special notices (club announcements submitted by club officers only).
See Club Announcement (Special Notice) Guidelines.
No email
Members who choose the no email delivery option receive no email from the discussion group.
NOTE: Choice of delivery option does not effect access to the message archives on the discussion group web site. See Discussion Group Access, above.
PARunClub Discussion Group members submit email to the discussion group by sending mail to:
parunclub@yahoogroups.com
NOTE: Before submitting discussion group mail, please review the Email Guidelines.
Why should I have a Yahoo ID and how do I get one?
Because some important settings (including HTML conversion, and delivery address) and features (including message search and file upload) cannot be accessed by email-only members,
we recommend that all discussion group members obtain a Yahoo ID.
With a Yahoo ID:
• you can effectively manage your discussion group account without assistance from club officers (who have plenty to do already)
• you can access additional discussion group website features like message searching and file upload/download.
If I use a Yahoo ID to manage my account, do I need a Yahoo delivery address?
When you associate a Yahoo ID with your discussion group delivery address, you do NOT need to change your discussion group delivery address to the Yahoo ID email address.
If you have already changed your discussion group delivery address to a Yahoo ID email address, and would like to change it back, it is reasonably easy to do so.
First check to see if the desired delivery address is listed as an alternate address on your YahooID account.
If not, add it and complete the verification. Then go to the discussion group website, click Edit My Membership (upper right), and make the change.
What's an on-file email address and why all the fuss?
Your on-file email address is the email address you provided on your club membership application (mail-in or online). To minimize club and discussion group maintenance, we require that discussion group members have an on-file email address and that it is the same as your discussion group delivery address.
How do I establish, or change an on-file email address?
To establish an on-file email address with the club, send an email from that address to .
The email should explain that you want to establish an on-file email address.
Once the email address is verified, you can join the discussion group.
There are several ways to change your on-file email address:
• If you have already joined the discussion group and you use a Yahoo ID to manage your account, you can change your discussion group delivery address and we will automatically update your on-file address
(your on-file address and your Yahoo delivery address will always be the same).
• If you are not yet a discussion group member, or if you joined the discussion group as an email-only member, the easiest way to change your on-file email address is to
send an email to from your current on-file address and note or copy your new address
(this way no confirmation of the new address is needed).
• If you can no longer access your current on-file email, send an email from your new address to .
The email should explain that you want to establish a new on-file email address.
With this method, we will need to verify your membership.
How do I change my delivery address?
When you join the discussion group, your email delivery address is the same as the email address you have on file with the club.
As a regular member, you can change your delivery address by logging into the discussion group website.
NOTE: When you change your discussion group delivery address online, the club automatically updates your "on-file" email address to be the same.
To change your discussion group delivery address while remaining an email-only member, you must establish a new discussion group account at the new delivery address.
To do this, send an email to .
The email should explain that you are an email-only member, and want to change your discussion group email delivery address.
The preferred method is to send the email from the current address, and cc or otherwise note the new address.
With this method, the new email address does not need to be verified.
Alternatively, send the email from the new address. Note the old address. With this method we need to verify your identity.
A new PARunClub Discussion Group account is established for the new delivery address, and then your old account is deleted (ensuring no messages are missed).
How do I change my delivery option?
When you join the PARunClub Discussion Group, your delivery option is set to Individual emails.
Regular discussion group members can change their delivery option by logging into the discussion group website.
Delivery options can also be changed by sending an email from your delivery address (email-only discussion group members must use this method).
When you join the PARunClub Discussion Group, your delivery option is set to Individual emails.
Delivery options can be changed by sending an email from your delivery address.
NOTE: When using this method for changing your delivery option, there may be a delay before the new setting takes effect.
To change to Individual emails, send the email to parunclub-normal@yahoogroups.com
To change to Daily digest, send the email to parunclub-digest@yahoogroups.com
To change to No email, send the email to parunclub-nomail@yahoogroups.com
NOTE: You cannot change your delivery option to Special notices without a Yahoo ID.
What's a Message Format Option and how do I change it?
When discussion group email is distributed to your delivery address, it can be converted to (or maintained as) HTML by the Yahoo groups system.
This default setting enables Yahoo to append advertisement images to the mail you receive.
Regular members can minimize the amount of advertising glop that Yahoo adds to mail they receive,
by changing their Message Format Option to Do not convert to HTML.
NOTE: Currently, there is no way for email-only members to change their Message Format Option.
Can I include attachments on mail to the discussion group?
The PARunClub Discussion Group does NOT distribute email attachments or store them in the message archives. If your mail system automatically generates attachments when forwarding or replying, manually cut and paste the attached material back into the body of your message.
The file upload facitity can be used in lieu of most other forms of attachments:
• Regular discussion group members (those with a Yahoo ID) can upload files to, and download files from the Files archive.
• To "distribute an attachment" to the discussion group, upload the attachment to the Files archive.
Rather than enabling the option to notify the discussion group of the upload, we recommend that you submit an email to the discussion group to both announce and describe the attachment.
How do I leave the discussion group?
If you are a discussion group member, and you wish to leave the group,
send an email from your group delivery address to: parunclub-unsubscribe@yahoogroups.com
NOTE: Discussion group volume and content will likely be variable.
If you are not absolutely sure that you want to leave the group,
an alternative is to change your email delivery option to No email delivery, and use the discussion group website when you want to view messages.
