Discussion Group Philosophy and Feedback
Email sent to the PARunClub Discussion Group can be on any topic of interest to club members.
To best accommodate an enjoyable exchange of information and opinions, and to encourage participation from the majority of club members,
reasonable guidelines for email sent to the discussion group will be maintained and enforced.
If you have questions about the current guidelines and their enforcement,
or suggestions for modifications, please contact the , or one or more of the club officers.
For general questions, comments, and request for change to Palo Alto Run Club policy, contact one or more of the club officers.
Discussion Group Topics
Content of messages to this group is NOT restricted to running-related topics.
For the most part, club members are happy to have opportunities to help each other. A couple examples that come to mind:
• If you have an apartment for rent, or a car for sale, let us know.
But maybe hold off on those rubbish sale items.
• If you are underemployed, give us a brief idea of what you're looking for.
If you or a family member provides a special service and you'd like to do a concise business intro, great.
Please reserve the details (and resume) for those who respond.
In general, please respect the time, privacy, and energy of club members. In particular:
• Avoid posts whose aim is to promote political or religious views (unless there IS some relation to running).
• If you are requesting donations or suppport for a charitable cause, please explain why you are supporting the cause, and also why you feel the organization deserves our attention.
Etiquette Guidelines
Email Submitted for Distribution
• Language and content is suitable for all ages, and is respectful toward those of all origins, persuasions, and abilities.
• Comments and opinions focus on content and avoid inflamatory remarks toward those with opposing views.
• Replies submitted to the discussion group add content to the discussion, not simply agree with, thank, or congratulate a previous author.
In all cases, please consider if a reply is more appropriately addressed to the author, than to the entire discussion group.
• When replying to the discussion group, avoid excessively long thread history; trim off content not needed to provide context for your remarks.
If you receive daily digest delivery, do not reply to the discussion group with an entire digest appended to your note.
• Email forwarded to the discussion group is with permission of the author. The member who forwards an email is responsible for its content.
• Auto-reply mail (when you are "out of the office", etc.) is not generated in response to discussion group email, and thereby sent to the discussion group or originator.
• The PARunClub Discussion Group is not a forum for debating discussion group policy or Palo Alto Run Club policy.
See Guideline Philosophy and Feedback, above.
Additional Considerations
The PARunClub Discussion Group is for the use of Palo Alto Run Club members only:
• The email address of a discussion group member will not be disclosed without permission of the address owner.
• An email distributed to the discussion group will not be forwarded outside the discussion group without permission of the author.
• Discussion group members will not facilitate the participation of non-club-members in a group discussion.
Guideline Enforcement
Enforcement measures are imposed at the discretion of the Discussion Group Moderator.
The Palo Alto Run Club board, by majority vote, can decide to overrule measures, or reinstate priveleges.
However, the board is under no obligation to review enforcement measures.

Special Notice (Club Announcement) Guidelines
The Yahoo group Special Notices feature is used by club officers to announce information about the club to its members.
To reach the widest possible club audience with this information, officers will agree to reserve its use as follows:
• Special notices communicate timely and key information that club members need in order to participate in or prepare for club activities,
to enjoy club member benefits, or to be kept up-to-date about club publications and policies.
• Special notices may also be used (with discretion) to:
- send a timely reminder about an seasonal event.
- send a quarterly reminder about an ongoing activity.
- announce club sponsored and featured area races.
- request RSVPs or volunteer assistance for a club sponsored activity.
- request feedback on a proposed club policy.
• Special notices should avoid endorsements, thanks, congratulations, and similar embellishments concerning club members and activities.
• Whenever possible, special notices reference website materials to avoid duplicating detail.
• The subject line of a special notice is a brief summary of its content. Consistent subject line use is maintained.
Each special notice addresses a single topic.
• Club members may request the posting of a special message by submitting it to a club officer.
